Troy Mizell co-founded AvKARE in 2007 and currently serves as President and Chief Executive Officer. AvKARE is a healthcare company focused on supplying pharmaceuticals, medical/surgical and laboratory supplies to both the federal and commercial markets.
In addition, Mr. Mizell serves as the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of MyGenetx, a CLIA certified and CAP Accredited Advanced Healthcare Molecular and Clinical Laboratory. MyGenetx performs tests such as pharmacogenetics, cardiovascular and diabetic testing serving customers nationwide and internationally.
Mr. Mizell is an innovative and motivated business entrepreneur with over 23 years of experience in business development, business management, sales and team building, as well as product development and marketing. His vision, professionalism, and persistence have enabled AvKARE to become one of the nation’s largest Service Disabled Veteran Owned Small Businesses in America. Since inception, AvKARE’s sales have eclipsed $2 billion in revenue.
In 2010, Mr. Mizell was a founding member and Treasurer of National Veterans Small Business Coalition (NVSBC). He is a member of the Coalition for Government Procurement (CGP) and serves as a member of their Healthcare Committee. Additionally, he is a paid-for-life member of the American Legion and Giles County Veterans Alliance. He is passionate about and devoted to the training and business development of all veteran and service disabled veteran entrepreneurs. Mr. Mizell was honored to receive the Freedom Team Salute from Gen. George W. Casey Jr., United States Army Chief of Staff, for ongoing support of the Army family. Troy also has a passion for service to community and serves as an Executive Trustee Board Member of both Lindsey Wilson College in Columbia, Kentucky, and Martin Methodist College in Pulaski, Tennessee. He is a Tennessee Squire and an Honorary Kentucky Colonel.
He served in the US Army (Infantry) for nine years from 1985 to 1994. In addition to serving in the 101st Airborne Division and the 7thInfantry Division, he was twice deployed to Europe and assigned to NATO Allied Mobile Forces Land. His primary mission was to provide the logistical and tactical needs of the NATO Commanding General’s deployed Tactical Operational Command Center (T.O.C.C.) in Germany. In these duties, Mr. Mizell gained vast experience in international project development, logistics planning, and team leadership. In his five years of duty assignments in Europe, Mr. Mizell conducted exercises in 14 different countries.
After the military, he studied mechanical engineering manufacturing technologies at Northeastern Iowa and worked in various positions in product development, quality control, and manufacturing production. His business development skills include areas such as banking finance, corporate strategic acquisitions and market development. Originally from Charleston, S.C., Troy and his wife Jody, and their two children, Zak and Makenzie, reside in Franklin, Tennessee.
